UPDATE!
Alja takes to the road for “A Roof over our Heads”
The August bank holiday weekend sees the start of the epic bike ride by Revd Alja Tollefsen as she begins her journey from Canterbury to Rome. Leaving husband and parishioners at home, Alja will commence the 1600 mile journey on Sunday morning after attending the Eucharist at Canterbury Cathedral.
Alja is travelling with two friends (with whom she will be writing a book about her journey) and has promised to keep in touch with home via email and MSN. Hubby Randy will be plotting her course on a map. The intrepid trio will need to travel between 45-50 miles per day. Parishioners will be following Alja’s progress with interest as a lot of money will be riding on this venture! (pardon the pun!!) Substantial amounts of money are needed for repair works in order to keep St Cross church leak free and open.
Many people will be supporting Alja by keeping her in their prayers. Others have supported her by helping the fund raising effort in practical ways. Trevor Brookes, landlord of the Falcon Bearer pub on Londgridge has supported Alja with the fund raising job swap that he arranged when Alja went to pull the pints and he took a service at church. Regulars at the pub have a collecting box on the bar and, thanks to Trevor, have already raised over £300. Two local bands played a fund raising gig at the pub and a barbecue was held to raise more money.
If you would like to sponsor Alja and support the appeal, please telephone Julie Withers on 01565 652514. All donations will be gratefully received.
