The Vicar writes………
August is that time of year when many of us take holidays, visit family and friends, and the ‘church life’ is quieter. Personally, August has been quite a busy month, with the shared evening services offering a range of worship to meet all tastes and also making preparations for what will be a busy September.
As a church there should be that burning desire within each of us to grow spiritually and deepen our faith. The highlight of September will be our Evening Confirmation Service when Bishop Peter will be here to confirm Paul and Gillian, as well as Martin from St Bartholomew's, Wilmslow. It will be a wonderful occasion with the Deanery Choir here to lead us in our singing. A Confirmation Service is in itself a statement from the people involved that they are confirming their baptismal promises, which in Gillian and Paul’s case, they made as adults earlier this year. It also offers us the chance to reaffirm our own commitment to communicate God’s love in Christ to our community.
As a church we seek to impart that love in various ways. The opening of our church for the Knutsford Heritage Days and also the Thanksgiving Tea and early evening service later in September are opportunities for us to consider carefully who we might offer an invitation to. And whilst it is the people and their inclusiveness that really make the church accessible to everyone, we also have a beautiful place to meet and worship in. Our church building has in recent times seen remarkable improvements through the generosity of our membership, in giving of time and talents.
Confirmations, Open Days, the improvements in our building, the Harvest Celebration in October, and shoots of growth in our church are all reasons to celebrate and be thankful for this Autumn.
Yours in His Service
Paul
